Historical recordings from the archives of radio Moscow, and field recordings from Prof. V. Shurov, devoted to polyphonic singing from Abkhazia and Adzharia on the Black Sea. 75 min. Pan Records is an excellent world music label from the Netherlands. We have a few of their CDs left in our warehouse and are selling them on a first come, first serve basis. This is perhaps the only available recording of music from two Georgian ethnic enclaves, Abkhazia and Muslim Adzharia. Some of the recordings show tendencies to the over-gentility of conscious preservationists and others the combined dilution and stylistic hype of radio ensembles. But there's plenty of authenticity as well, notably some superb Adzhari polyphonic singing. ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music
